Understanding Change or Change Ready
19 May 2026Most organisations don’t struggle with understanding change.
They struggle with being ready for it.
Over the years, we’ve seen countless frameworks, from the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross curve through to John Kotter’s work, helping explain what happens during change and how it can be structured. And they are still really useful and valid.
But understanding change doesn’t always translate into navigating it well.
Because when change actually hits we know that:
⬆️ uncertainty rises
⬆️ pressure builds
🔀 emotions fluctuate
⏹️ hope can disappear
⬇️ and performance can dip
And that’s the moment where theory alone isn’t enough.
At Resourceful People Group Ltd, we leverage our ‘HR with a Twist’ as we focus on something slightly different, as we actively work with our clients enabling & supporting individuals, leaders and teams become change ready.
Not just knowing what change looks like but building the capability to move through it. And that starts with self-awareness. Because if we don’t understand how we respond under pressure, how we think, feel and behave, it becomes much harder to adapt effectively.
That’s where EQ and AQ come together.
🔸 EQ builds awareness, connection and emotional regulation
🔸 AQ builds adaptability, resilience and forward movement
Both are essential because change doesn’t just test what we know, it tests how we show up and adapt.
What is fundamental in making change happen is a ‘core’ ingredient that we often refer to as an ‘adaptability’ accelerant….that ingredient is what we define as ‘Hope’.
For clarity this is not hope being defined as blind optimism but much more, which I explore further in my called “The Architecture of Hope” (available in bookstores, Amazon and online) but it’s also something we see play out every day in the organisations we support.
Because in reality, change doesn’t fail because of a lack of models. It struggles when people aren’t ready.
